FAQ

Q. As the water additive is clear in colour, what if dogs & cats drink the concentrate (if the pet owner is not following the user instructions)?

A. Our experience is the pets will turn up their nose at the concentrated form.  Their keen sense of smell can detect it as a concentrate.  If they were to drink just the concentrate it could cause a short term upset stomach.

Q. If Oxyfresh is added into a drinking fountain with charcoal filters, will it affect the efficacy? (Water is replaced daily & the 5ml ratio to water volume would be followed).

A. Yes, we recommend removing a filter if its carbon based. The carbon will filter out our product. If it’s just a paper or mesh filter it will not affect the product. Remove the charcoal filter and just use the fountain to keep the water moving.  Oxyfresh’s Pet Water Additive will help keep the water fresh.

Q. Does efficacy decrease if owners add the water into the food?

A. Yes, the efficacy will decrease if anything else is added to the water.  The active ingredient, Oxygene®, acts on organic compounds.  It would start to deodorize the food on contact.  There wouldn’t be any activity left to clean the bacteria in the pet’s mouth.

Q. Can water be frozen into ice cubes for pets to lick?

A. Yes, the water additive can be diluted and froze into ice cubes for pets to lick.  It will not be as effective as drinking it as a liquid.  When it’s in liquid form it splashes around the pet’s mouths and comes in contact with bacteria throughout their mouth.  As a solid it will have most of its contact with the pet’s tongue.

Q. Can Oxyfresh be used in a water bowl with Dog Rocks?

A. Yes, Oxyfresh works just fine with Dog Rock in the water. The Oxygene® won’t be affected.

Q. When should the animals drinking water / Oxyfresh be changed?

A. We recommend changing the animals drinking water with Oxyfresh every two days as a minimum to maximize effectiveness of the Oxygene®.

Q. What is the difference in ingredient of Oxyfresh human mouthwash vs Oxyfresh pet.

A. Regarding our human rinse’s vs the Pet Water Additive, there are substantial differences.

  1. Pet Water Additive does not use any flavorings and absolutely no Xylitol.
  2. Oxygene concentration is decreased in PWA because it’s designed to be ingested throughout the day vs. a rinse that’s designed to be used for 1 minute twice per day.
  3. PWA incorporates chlorophyllin as an additional deodorant that is safe for ingestion.

Pet Water Additive was created from the science of our human line.  We needed to make substantial changes so that it was safe for pets to ingest daily and make sure they could not detect it in their water.

Q. Safety / long term tests.

A. We have had this product in commerce since 1996. It’s safely been used on millions of dogs and cats worldwide. Many of them used it their entire life span. We do not have specific animal testing because our company chose to not participate in animal testing. This formula was developed in partnership with veterinarians to make sure the dosage was safe for long term use.

Q. Any contraindications – Kidney Disease, liver disease, young animals, diets etc.

A. There are no known contraindications for Oxyfresh Pet Water Additive. We rely on the veterinarian to determine if there is a condition that the pet could have a sensitivity.

Q. Will Oxyfresh disrupt the 'good' bacteria balance in the mouth?

A. Oxygene will kill bacteria both good and bad. It’s most effective on sulphur compounds that cause bad breath and periodontal disease. The strength of Oxygene will not be enough to disrupt the good flora and cause other health issues.

Q. Should we be worried about a zinc overdose/imbalance if adding Oxyfresh into an already balanced diet?

A. Oxyfresh water additive will not cause a zinc overdose/imbalance. The amount of zinc in the concentrated, non-diluted, form is 336ppm. Then it’s diluted in water at a ratio of 200:1.

Q. Any studies on how it works?

A. All studies to date are based on human studies. At this time, we do not have studies on animals due to our position of no animal testing.
